Inspiration of the Week: Gatsby
I remember reading The Great Gatsby when I was in high school and loving it. I feel much of the required reading for high schoolers is pretty dry, but this book kept my attention from start to finish, Needless to say, I had high expectations for the movie, which is why I didn't want to see it. Well this past weekend, I finally saw The Great Gatsby, and I thought it was Superb. Many of the aspect from the book, such as the Green Light, were included in the movie. The Green Light was such an important symbol in the book that signified "the American Dream." At some point or another, most Americans want to achieve this dream; which is typically, wealth, status, a wife and family,.. the list could go on. Now a days, my generation may see "the American Dream" a little differently. Personally, my version of the dream would consist of striving, and achieving my goals and aspirations, education, wealth, social standing. My desire (& Gatsby's) to achieve this American Dream compels us to strive and accomplish more. So this color green made strive to make these windows as beautiful as I could, so they could maybe help these girls get closer to their American Dream.

Inspiration of the Week: Ghanaian Jewlery
I traveled to Ghana, West Africa this past summer. Aside from being able to design a collection made from Ghanaian Fabrics, we had the opportunity to meet Ghanaian designers, artisans, and entrepreneurs, but we were able to buy their work. When we ventured to the Accra Cultural Center, I came across this beautiful, one of a kind necklaces. It is made with handmade glass beads. The beads are a golden yellow, light blue, and a coral-red. At first it seemed a little off, but after tweeking a few details, the vibrant colors came together. These colors remind me of Ghana, and of all of the wonderful artists and entrepreneurs I met. Their passion and drive to create beauty comes out in all of their creations, including this necklace; which is exact;y what I was trying to achieve with this window.
